UM6P at MTL connecte: Montréal Highlights Africa’s Digital Ambition
Montreal, 28-31 October 2025 – At MTL connecte – The Digital Week, one of the world’s leading events on innovation, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) took center stage in discussions on technological sovereignty, responsible AI, and the future of global innovation.
Across sessions, conferences, and panels, one message emerged clearly: Africa is not merely adopting digital technologies—it is creating, shaping, and pioneering new models, with UM6P acting as a key catalyst.
In the opening keynote, Prof. Lamiae Azizi, Associate Professor & Chief Scientific Officer AI, offered a compelling overview of digital transitions and the human challenges they raise. Calling for responsible, inclusive, impact-oriented AI, she reaffirmed UM6P’s distinctive stance: science guided by ethics and human transformation.
This vision was further amplified by Yassine Laghzioui, CEO of UM6P Ventures, whose talk “Africa, a Territory of Innovation” emphasized the continent’s ability to design its own digital models—anchored, agile, and globally connected. His message resonated: “Africa is inventing its own digital future. And UM6P is one of its catalysts.”
In an inspiring masterclass devoted to future-proof skills, Ali Kettani, Director of the College of Computing, presented UM6P’s vision for training the digital defenders of tomorrow—engineers capable of advancing Africa’s digital sovereignty with excellence and responsibility.
Later, in a major keynote, Jalal Charaf, UM6P’s Chief Digital Officer, explored the urgent need to rehumanize the digital world by placing dignity, education, and ethics at the heart of technological progress.
Finally, during a panel on AI safety and alignment, Prof. Lamiae Azizi underscored that trust, transparency, and responsible governance must form the foundation of any long-term technological strategy.
Through these contributions, UM6P affirmed a powerful posture: championing an ambitious African vision, open to the world and committed to international co-creation.
