UM6P Global Hubs – Canada is seeking a Research Project Manager to lead the development, submission, and operational management of international research projects (Canada–Africa). The selected candidate will work at the interface between scientific teams, academic partners, industry stakeholders, and institutional bodies, in order to translate UM6P’s scientific priorities into high-impact research programs.

UM6P Canada promotes cooperation between Africa and Canada in research, training, and innovation. The Hub catalyzes academic and industrial collaborations on strategic themes: mining and sustainable valorization, energy and clean technologies, agriculture, water and hydrosystems, AI and advanced materials.

🟠 Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the scientific and administrative development of funding applications (drafting scientific sections, structuring proposals, developing and justifying budgets).
  • Manage the entire project cycle: planning, tracking milestones and deliverables, financial and scientific reporting, risk management and KPIs.
  • Identify and mobilize research and innovation partners (universities, laboratories, incubators, innovation centers) to build Canada–Africa partnerships and animate research consortia or networks.
  • Conduct scientific, technological and regulatory monitoring (horizon scanning, benchmarking, identifying relevant calls for proposals) and translate opportunities into concrete proposals.
  • Prepare and manage submissions on platforms (NSERC, FRQNT, NRC, CRIBIQ, etc.); ensure post-submission follow-up and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Manage contractual aspects: MOUs, partnership agreements, consortium agreements, intellectual property and compliance/ethics matters.
  • Organize and coordinate workshops, seminars, calls for projects and scientific events; produce strategic notes and briefings for management.
  • Support the capitalization of results, scientific dissemination and the preparation of bilingual (FR/EN) deliverables.

 

🟠 Desired Profile:

  • Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, hydrometallurgy, electrochemistry, or a related discipline; PhD appreciated.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in scientific project management / R&D coordination, ideally within international and multidisciplinary programs.
  • Proven experience in developing and submitting competitive funding applications.
  • Excellent scientific analysis, writing and synthesis skills; strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken).
  • Proficiency in office and project management tools (advanced Excel, project management tools, submission platforms, document management).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, networking ability, diplomacy, and capacity to work with academic and industrial partners.
  • Availability for occasional travel (Morocco, North America) and sensitivity to Canada–Africa issues.

In line with the mission and priorities of UM6P Global Hubs – Canada:

  • Mobilize and engage the Moroccan and African diaspora in Canada (researchers, entrepreneurs, alumni, experts, students).
  • Be a driving force by proposing concrete collaborations with this community, aligned with the Hub’s focus areas: R&D, Executive Education, Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
  • Design and manage a bilingual communication plan (FR/EN): writing, storytelling, media relations, publications. Manage the website and social media: content, editorial strategy, reporting, reach and engagement growth. Identify key platforms, networks, and partners (universities, clusters, think tanks, specialized media, etc.) to strengthen UM6P Canada’s presence and influence.
  • Organize and coordinate community events (UM6P Connect, Africa Science Dinners, Innovation Bridges).
  • Prepare briefings and strategic notes for top management ahead of events or institutional meetings.
  • Set up and monitor performance indicators (OKRs): engagement, community growth, impact and value creation.

🟠Desired Profile:

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree in communications, international relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in communications, community engagement, or public affairs, ideally in an international context (Africa–Canada). Excellent command of French and English.
  • Strong writing skills, creativity, and storytelling ability.
  • Experience managing digital platforms (LinkedIn, CMS, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Canva).
  • Good knowledge of African and Canadian dynamics, and strong interest in the African diaspora.
  • Autonomy, rigor, and organizational skills. Team spirit, intercultural intelligence, and relational diplomacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in an agile environment.

Position Scope

UM6P Global Hubs Canada aims to develop activities and lead projects that align with UM6P’s strategic priorities, where the university has strong expertise supporting African economic and social development: agriculture, mining, artificial intelligence, energy and renewable energies, as well as sustainable development in the broad sense.

The implementation project of UM6P Global Hubs Canada is structured around four main areas:

  • Development of doctoral research activities in Canada.
  • Development of Executive Education programs.
  • Development of innovation and startup creation in Canada.
  • Development of consulting and service activities in its main fields of intervention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess needs, define and propose policies and strategic directions.
  • Design and develop educational programs; identify and recruit qualified instructors; validate programs with UM6P experts.
  • Manage the entire Executive Education program portfolio: instructional design, planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Develop customized training offers through needs assessments and respond to calls for tenders when required.
  • Serve as the primary interface with clients.
  • Prepare project P&L statements and ensure the financial profitability of programs.
